Title
Police Service Agreement with the University Athletic Association for the 2001 University of Florida Home Football Games (B)
Explanation
The University Athletic Association (UAA) and the University of Florida Police Department typically request assistance from the Gainesville Police Department in handling crowd and traffic control for the home football games at the University of Florida. The UAA has scheduled six home games for the 2001 season and requests approximately 45 Gainesville Police Department personnel for each game. This police service agreement with UAA and University of Florida Police Department is for a three-year period, with two one-year extension clauses.
This agreement also allows for University of Florida Police Department officers to provide traffic control within the City of Gainesville in the vicinity of the University of Florida during home basketball games.
Fiscal Note
The UAA is invoiced by the Gainesville Police Department for actual personnel costs for each game. An average cost for each game is $11,500, or projected around $70,000 for the season.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the Police Services Agreement between the City of Gainesville and the University Athletic Association and the University of Florida for police security services at the University of Florida's 2001 home football games, subject to the approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
