explanation

In order to facilitate a new agreement with the Supervisor of Elections for City elections, the City Commission, at its meeting of October 6, 2016, authorized the City Attorney to draft an ordinance changing sections of the City's Code relating to elections to change the time in between the regular election and the runoff election to six weeks as opposed to the current four week period and to amend the early voting provisions for municipal elections.  The ordinance provides that early voting shall be conducted at dates and times set forth in the election ordinance adopted by the City Commission annually, provided that such dates and times are not inconsistent with state law.  This ordinance requires two hearings and shall become effective immediately upon adoption; however it shall apply only to City elections conducted after January 1, 2018.
