Title
Change Order No. 2 for NW 38TH Street Reconstruction from NW 8th Avenue to NW 16th Boulevard (B)
Explanation
This project consists of the reconstruction of NW 38th Street (3,898 feet) and related appurtenances between the existing intersections of NW 8th Avenue and NW 16th Boulevard. The proposed roadway facility will have a thirty foot pavement width, concrete curb and gutter and concrete sidewalk (west shoulder only), as well as landscape islands and a three-way traffic stop. Work includes the installation of an underground electric conduit and the accommodation of telephone and television conduits in the same trench line. In addition, Gainesville Regional Utilities has reconstructed the sanitary sewers and most of the water distribution mains.
During the installation of the storm sewer system, the amount of unsuitable subsurface soil encountered exceeded original projections. This material had to be removed and replaced with soils meeting construction requirements in order to support the new roadway. John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Company replaced the unsuitable soils with suitable soils resulting in the issuance of Change Order #1 increasing the original contract costs from $1,275,431.90 to $1,473,109.90. Change Order #2 represents an increase in costs to $1,513,357.90 due to work related to additional soil replacement.
Fiscal Note
Funds for this project are available in the 1996 Road Construction Public Works NW 38th Street Project Account.
