A Resolution of the City of Gainesville, Florida, supporting the State Department of Elder Affairs' Initiative to work towards making Florida's communities "Elder Ready" and providing an immediate effective date. (B)
Explanation
Alachua County has gone on record in support of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs' initiative to make Florida "Elder Ready" so elders can remain independent as long as possible and to remain in their homes and in the communities that they are familiar with. In August 2001, the Alachua County Department of Community Support Services, Office of Senior Services, created the Alachua County Partners for Elder Readiness Team to promote elder readiness throughout Alachua County and to research the present conditions and future needs of elders within the community.
The City of Gainesville is asked to support the concept of Elder Readiness by adopting the proposed resolution.

Recommendation
The City Commission hear a brief presentation from the Director of the Office of Senior Services, Alachua County Department of Community Support Services, and adopt the proposed resolution.
