Title
Proposed County Courthouse (B)
Explanation
Representatives of Alachua County, as well as the architects hired by the County, will provide a presentation on the proposed courthouse to be located downtown. The County is interested in general feedback from the City Commission. Particular issues that may be of interest to the City Commission include:
*orientation of the first building phase in relation to adjacent streets and sidewalks;
*which street (Main Street or Second Avenue, or the intersection of the two) will receive the primary building orientation;
*orientation of the development overall toward adjacent streets and sidewalks as the entire complex is built out over a period of years;
*any assistance the City might provide in connection with making the City-owned parking lot available or relocating utilities;
*the City's timing and costs in providing or partially funding a garage to be associated at least in part with the courthouse;
*any street closings which might be requested by the County;
*the number of parking spaces that might be provided in a City-owned garage near the courthouse, how many of those spaces might be available for courthouse users, and how much additional surface parking might need to be located on the courthouse site in addition to the spaces to be provided in a garage; and
*any exceptions which the County might be planning to request in connection with the City's build-to requirement and maximum parking limits pursuant to the flexibility provided under the City's Traditional City ordinance.
Fiscal Note
City costs not determined at this time.
Recommendation
Hear a presentation from the County and take appropriate action.
