Explanation

On April 5, 2001, the Downtown Redevelopment Advisory Board was informed by member Linda McGurn that the State is looking for office space on the west side of Gainesville near the I-75 corridor, rather than in the downtown core.  It was pointed out that this is contrary to the State Growth Management Plan.

On April 16, 2001, the CRA Board heard a recommendation from the Downtown Redevelopment Advisory Board asking that the CRA contact the Department of Corrections and request that the State include downtown and other economically viable areas in our community for this office space.

CRA to the City Commission:   Recommend that the City Commission authorize the Mayor to send a letter to the Department of Corrections requesting that a broader area including downtown and other economically viable areas in our community be considered for this contract.
