Title
A Resolution of the City Commission for the Temporary Closing of Two State Roads for the 1999 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March on Monday, January 18, 1999.
Explanation
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission of Florida, Inc., sponsors the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March on Monday, January 18, 1999. The parade extends along State Road 26 (University Avenue) from N.E. 1st Street to State Road 24 (Waldo Road) and north on State Road 24 to N.E. 8th Avenue to Citizens Field. The route requires the temporary closing of State Road 26 and State Road 24 for approximately two hours commencing at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 18, 1999.
The temporary closing of a State road within municipal corporate limits requires a municipal government to submit a "Request for Temporary Closing of a State Road" to the State of Florida Department of Transportation. This application provides that the City police of the municipality will manage all details involved in the administration of the event.
Fiscal Note
Funding for support services required for the event in the amount of $10,170 is budgeted in the FY 98-99 Special Events account #001-870-8715-5730.
Recommendation
The City Commission adopt the proposed resolution, which requests the temporary closing of two State roads for the 1999 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March, providing an immediate effective date.
