Title
Report on the Proposed Operating Plan for the Newly Renovated Wilhelmina Johnson Resource Center (B)
Explanation
Renovations to the Wilhelmina Johnson Resource Center (WJRC) were recently completed in order to bring it into compliance with all codes and ADA standards, as well as to enhance the facility's viability to serve as a community service center. Renovations included replacement of the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Structural changes were required to turn small rooms into open spaces; steel beams had to be added to support the roof; and new ceilings were hung. Cosmetic improvements were made throughout.
The facility is now ready for use and operation. A number of steps have been taken to determine the community's interest in its use. Input from interested individuals has been taken into consideration, as well as feedback from a formal survey of a variety of local community services agencies. Cultural Affairs staff will present their plan for operation of the facility.
Fiscal Note
$50,000 has been budgeted for facility operations to include staffing, utilities, equipment and supplies. To date $6,100 has been spent for purchases including tables and chairs, a TV and VCR, an upright piano, and re-keying with high security locks.
Recommendation
The City Commission hear a brief report by Cultural Affairs staff.
