Purchase Order for Roofing Project at the Deerhaven Generating Station (B)
Explanation
The roof of the maintenance building at the Deerhaven Generating Station has developed leaks. During heavy rains, ponding occurs on the flat roof and the building becomes unusable to staff for safety reasons. The roof holds an air conditioning unit which causes additional ponding of water.
Staff believes that a coal tar pitch roof is the best option for this project. Quotations were requested from three roofing contractors capable of installing a coal tar pitch roof, with two companies responding. A quotation was obtained for a hot asphalt roof which was $1660 less than the lowest coal tar pitch roof. Based on historical data, the asphalt roof will not provide the same quality or life span as a coal tar pitch roof. A tabulation of the quotes received is attached for your information.
Recommendations
The City Commission approve the issuance of a purchase order to Ferber & Osteen Company, Inc. for replacing the roof on the maintenance building at the Deerhaven Generating Station in an amount not to exceed $25,960.
Fiscal Note
Funds for these services have been included in the FY 99 O & M budget.
