Review and Approval of the Fred Cone Park Conceptual Site Plan (B)
This item involves a request for the City Commission to approve the Conceptual Site Plan for the Fred Cone Park development, using Wild Spaces Public Places (WSPP) funding.
Explanation
In September 2009, the City Commission finalized approval for funding of the WSPP projects throughout the City. Cone Park was allocated $1,275,000 for park improvements. During the City Commission deliberations, several community individuals expressed interest in various features being discussed for the park. Staff was directed by the City Commission to organize a community group to discuss and prioritize development opportunities for the park and bring back to the City Commission a conceptual development plan for review and approval. Staff organized a group of interested community individuals to assist with the development of the conceptual plan. As part of these discussions, the Alachua County Library District indicated their interest in pursuing possible options to establish a branch facility at the site, in conjunction with the park improvements. Based on these discussions, the infrastructure needed for this possible library branch has been included into the conceptual site plan and cost proposal. A number of meetings were held, features were prioritized, and a final conceptual plan and priority list were brought to a neighborhood meeting on February 16, 2010. From this meeting, the final conceptual site plan was set. This final conceptual site plan is being brought before the City Commission for review and approval.
