Explanation

The City of Gainesville and Alachua County entered into an Interlocal Agreement whereby the County agreed to extend its human rights ordinance to include the corporate limits of the City of Gainesville on September 21, 2000.  The County agreed that its human rights ordinance would cover the protected classifications in the City's Discrimination Ordinance with the exception of Sexual Orientation.

The Interlocal Agreement was not renewed for fiscal year 2004.  Effective January 1, 2004 the City of Gainesville again began to enforce, file, process and hear complaints of discrimination relating to race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, marital status and disability.

City Commission receive an update on the City's experience in enforcing, filing, processing and hearing complaints of discrimination filed by citizens since January 1, 2004.
