Explanation

This is in recognition of Gainesville's national award as a "Safety City" from the Responsible Hospitality Institute. Gainesville received this designation November 13^th sharing honors with West Palm Beach, Fl for providing unique solutions to managing nightlife activity in city entertainment districts. Gainesville was noted specifically for achievements such as the underage drinking ordinance, partnership and education efforts with UF GatorWell, and successful safe handling of the football national championship celebration involving approx. 28,000 celebrants. A Gainesville contingent comprised of Commissioner Jeanna Mastrodicasa, UF Dr Virginia Dodd, UF Health Educator Maureen Miller, and GPD Capt.
