Update on Status of Commercial Recycling

This item is a request for the Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee to receive an update on the progress of Strategic Initiative 7.2: Review the status of commercial recycling ordinances.

Explanation

On June 16, 2011 the City Commission adopted on Final Reading an ordinance providing for fines and/or surcharges to be imposed upon commercial businesses that failed to comply with the city's mandatory recycling ordinance after receiving adequate warning. Staff would like to present a brief report on the current status of commercial recycling and the effectiveness of the new ordinance as an enforcement tool.
