Explanation

At their November 27, 2000 meeting, the General Employees' Pension Plan Board of Trustees heard a presentation from Pension Review Committee Chairman Jonathan Visscher on the potential implications of socially responsible investing for the General Employees' Pension Plan.

After receiving the presentation, the Board of Trustees made a referral to the Pension Review Committee to develop specific information on the subject.  This request for information included the history of the City of Gainesville's policy on investing in South Africa, a survey of how certain peer cities are addressing the issue of socially responsible investing, and a survey to determine if there is General Plan members support for instituting a socially responsible policy.
