Title
Deed for San Felasco Park (B)
Explanation
Shortly after the Ashton area annexation in 1999, the City and County staffs began discussions concerning the potential transfer of ownership of the County's San Felasco Park to the City. This property was donated to Alachua County by the federal government with a requirement that certain capital improvements be made to the park. Some of those improvements have been completed, but other work remains to be done. The negotiations concerning construction of the remaining required improvements have not been completed.
On February 22, 2000 the Board of County Commissioners approved deeding the property to the City of Gainesville. The deed was recorded on February 28, 2000 prior to the City's acceptance. This recording was in error and needs to be corrected. By letter of August 28, 2000, the County has requested that the City approve a deed back to the County in order to clear the public records. Discussions at the staff level concerning transfer of the park are continuing.
Fiscal Note

Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the Mayor to sign a quit claim deed to Alachua County for the San Felasco Park subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
