Evaluation of Trial On Street Parking in College Park University Heights (B)
Explanation
Several months ago, the City Commission agreed to a trial program that would allow increased on-street parking along certain streets within the College Park University Heights (CPUH) District. The streets were selected as a result of a survey generated by Public Works Department staff and Gainesville Fire/Rescue at the request of the CRA. Five locations, as described in the Parking Study created by the Public Works Department, were identified as appropriate locations for trial implementation of the program: on Southwest 1st Avenue, Southwest 5th Avenue, Northwest 2nd Avenue, Northwest 3rd Avenue, and Northwest 14th Street. The program was implemented in January 2004.
At their July 7, 2004 meeting, the CPUH Board reviewed the program, discussed the need for a sidewalk on one side of the street before on-street parking is permitted on both sides of the street, and made a motion to make the trial parking permanent on those streets with sidewalks on one side of the street and to move forward with additional parking on streets that meet the one side of the street sidewalk criteria, identified on the map dated July 2003.

Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) Approve the trial on-street parking as permanent; and 2) authorize parking on both sides of the streets as previously identified in the July 2003 map provided by Public Works, which meet the criteria of having sidewalks on one side of the street.
