Explanation

The Water Distribution Division budgeted for the purchase of two new vacuum excavators (500 and 800 gallon capacity).  The vacuum excavators will replace a backhoe and will be capable of making prompt, neat repairs to broken water mains while eliminating the need for utility locates.

Invitations to Bid were sent to four prospective bidders, with three companies responding. Two bids did not meet the material requirements of the bid and were deemed nonresponsive.  A bid tabulation is attached for your information.

Recommendations

The City Commission approve the issuance of a purchase order to Southern Sewer Equipment Sales for the purchase of two (2) vacuum excavators for the Water Distribution Department in the amount of $61,045.

Fiscal Note

Funds for this purchase have been included in the FY 2000 Water Distribution budget.
