Title
Florida Communities Trust Grant Application for Duval Stormwater Park (B)
Explanation
The North East Gainesville Duval Area Neighborhood Front Porch Florida Community, Inc. (FPFC), requests the City's assistance in acquiring property for the Duval Stormwater Park. In 2001, a 26.4 acre undeveloped area was identified as a potential stormwater park site in the City's East Gainesville Redevelopment Plan. The Duval Stormwater Park is envisioned to provide recreation and environmental education programs to area residents as well as facilitate redevelopment in the neighborhood.
The Public Works Department has been asked by FPFC to assist representatives from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the St. Johns River Water Management District, and FPFC with the grant application preparation for submittal by July 30, 2002.
Fiscal Note
The Florida Communities Trust (FCT) grant program will pay 75% of the appraised property value and acquisition costs for approved projects. The required City match of 25% will not exceed $200,000. If an award is received, the funding sources would be a combination of Stormwater Utility and Community Development Block Grant funds.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager or designee to: 1) submit an FCT grant application for the 26.4 acre Duval Stormwater Park; and 2) execute all other related documents related to the FCT grant, if a grant award is made to the City.
