CODE ENFORCEMENT DIVISION STAFF REPORT

Beginning in 2006, a working group of City staff developed a multi-pronged approach to improving the appearance of the major corridors and neighborhoods in the City. The City Beautification Board discussed staff's proposal on October 11, 2006 and supported the proposal. One area of the proposal stated that more specific regulations would be helpful regarding the appearance and maintenance of fences on private property. Staff recommended that regulations be adopted requiring that fences be maintained in upright and good condition, without excessive weedy vegetation, and with surfaces maintained in good condition.

On February 12, 2007, the City Commission discussed the staff proposal and referred the issue of standards for installation and maintenance of fencing to the Community Development Committee. On June 19, 2007, the Community Development Committee discussed the proposal and reco...
