STAFF REPORT

This is a request by the Gainesville Police Department to change the Future Land Use Map designation to Public Facilities for 2.56 acres that are owned by the City of Gainesville adjacent to the existing GPD Downtown Headquarters Campus. Policy 4.1.1 of the Future Land Use Element states that the Public Facilities land use category is intended for "administrative and operational functions such as government offices, utility facilities and storage facilities." The property that is the subject of this land use change currently includes a vacant warehouse building, vacant office building, a parking area, and a vacant lot. These properties were purchased by the City with the intent to allow for the expansion of the existing police department facility and redevelopment of the subject parcels.
