This is a request for City Commission Contingency funds from Gainesville Area Rowing, Inc. to promote the sport of rowing in Gainesville and the surrounding area.
Explanation
Gainesville Area Rowing, Inc. will host a program to promote the sport of rowing in Gainesville and the surrounding area on October 18, 2008. This program is aimed to increase the number of visitors to Gainesville by increasing the number of participants and spectators from other rowing teams across the state. The program will be a day of racing rower boats on Newnans Lake. Gainesville Area Rowing, Inc. is requesting assistance from the City Commission Fund in the amount of $1,348. These funds will be used to help offset the cost of trash collection, transportation of spectators from remote parking at Powers Park to Palm Point (viewing site) and the boathouse, and set up of the viewing site at Palm Point. A detailed event budget is attached.
Fiscal Note
Gainesville Area Rowing, Inc. is requesting a total of $1,348 from City Commission Contingency Fund. The balance effective October 1, 2008 is $25,000.
Recommendation
The City Commission consider the request and take action as appropriate.
