Explanation

At the December 4, 2008 City Commission Meeting, the issue of allowing golf carts or similar vehicles on City streets and County roads in the City was referred to the Public Safety Committee for review.

The Public Safety Committee began its discussion on this referral at their March 18, 2009 meeting.  GPD staff gave the restrictions that are mandated by the State and it was discussed that perhaps golf carts be allowed in certain neighborhoods.  Consideration for the use of golf carts could be reviewed with developers and City staff during the development process of new subdivisions.

The Committee discussed this item again on April 27, 2009.  At that meeting Paul Hirneise, owner of Santa Fe Golf Carts, and Justin Jackel of GatorMoto spoke on the issue.

Recommendation

The Public Safety Committee continue the discussion of the issue of using golf carts and similar low and medium speed vehicles on City streets and County roads in the City.
