This item is a referral to the Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee regarding City sponsorship of a "Paint-Out."

Explanation

Commissioner Poe brought this item forward at the October 21, 2010 City Commission meeting, in response to an inquiry by local artist Sue Johnson, who indicated her interest in organizing a "Paint-Out" in the Fifth Avenue redevelopment corridor.

Ms. Johnson has prepared a presentation regarding her proposal, which identifies event logistics as well as estimated costs for the event for the current two-year budget cycle.

Fiscal Impact

Currently this event is not a core service included in the FY11-12 Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department budget. Funds to cover expenses associated with this as a one-time or recurring event are not budgeted.

Recommendation

The Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee hear a proposal by Sue Johnson regarding the City of Gainesville sponsoring a Paint-Out with local artists in the Fifth Avenue area.
