Explanation
The intent behind this one time swearing-in of officers before the entire City Commission is to showcase the implementation of a unique practice of including a civilian on the oral board panel as part of the entry-level police officer selection process. This was an effort to incorporate community involvement and bring a diverse perspective to the evaluation of the skill sets of police officer applicants. Thus, it reinforces our partnership with the community and highlights that we not only work with them but also for them.

The City Commission authorize the Gainesville Police Department to present the oath of office to eight new police officers in the 5:30 p.m. Special Recognition time slot.
