This item is a request for City Manager authorization to accept additional funding from the Department of Justice High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program.
Explanation
The Gainesville Police Department is a sub-recipient of Department of Justice grant funds awarded to the Alachua County Sheriff's Department for narcotic enforcement. The Alachua County Sheriff's Office has been notified that an additional funding allocation has become available. The Task Force is funded through the Department of Justice's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program. These dollars will be available for overtime costs as well as for equipment to support investigations.
Fiscal Note
An exact dollar amount has not been specified at this time. Information regarding the allocation is expected in late April 2013. The Gainesville Police Department will continue to comply with all requirements associated with this allocation as stipulated in the contract with the Alachua County Sheriff's Department.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to accept and execute the additional funding allocated through the program extension and any other necessary documents subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
