Contract for Inmate Work Crew for the Solid Waste Division (B)
 
This item is a request for the City Commission to approve a contract between the City of Gainesville (City) and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) for Inmate Work Crew for Litter Clean-up for the term of December 16, 2014 through December 15, 2017.
 
Explanation
The Enterprise Fund budget is developed with consideration for funding a contract inmate work crew with the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC). The inmate work crew consists of an FDOC supervisor and five (5) inmates from their work camp.
 
This contract pays for the salary of the FDOC supervisor along with required tools and supplies in the amount of $57,497 annually.  The major work focus of this crew is litter cleanup along city roadways. The inmate crew is also responsible for the cleanup of illegal dumpsites on city property at the direction of Solid Waste and Code Inspectors.
 
Fiscal Note
Funding in the amount of $57,497 for the inmate work crew contract is provided in the FY 2015 Solid Waste Enterprise Fund operating budgets.
 
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the contract with Florida Department of Corrections for a contractual inmate work crew through December 15, 2017, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
