This is a request for the City Commission to approve a Traffic Enforcement Aggrement between the Phoenix Homeoners Association and the City of Gainesville Police Department.
Explanation
The Phoenix Homeowners Association has requested that the City of Gainesville Police Department enforce state traffic law on private roads and streets within the Phoenix neighborhood pursuant to Section 316.006(2)(b), Florida Statutes. The City and Phoenix previously had a Traffic Enforcement Agreement in place which has since expired. Traffic enforcement of the area by the Police Department will benefit the city by increasing the safety of the community traveling on the roads within and through the Phoenix neighborhood. The Police Department already responds to calls for non-traffic related issues in the Phoenix neighborhood. Traffic enforcement and the police presence requested by Phoenix aid in decreasing the overall crime rate.
Fiscal Note
There would be no increased cost to the City.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the Traffic Enforcement Agreement between the Phoenix Homeowners Association and the City of Gainesville Police Department; subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
