NERC Operating Standard and Cyber Security Compliance Requirements (B)
This is an informational item regarding the impact of federally mandated electric system reliability standards on GRU's operating practices, cyber security and compliance programs.
Explanation
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards became mandatory and enforceable July 1, 2007. Throughout the ensuing years additional required operating and security standards have continued to emerge and be put into effect. GRU has implemented effective compliance programs to date, however the requirements are ever increasing in complexity and cost. The latest and most demanding version of the CIP Standards (version 5) will become enforceable April 1, 2016 and will be of significant impact to existing resources.
Fiscal Note
The initial and recurring cost to comply with the NERC Reliability Standards will increase significantly with the implementation of Version 5 of the CIP Standards.

City Commission hear a presentation from staff regarding the federally mandated electric system reliability standards that impact operating practice and cyber security, and GRU's compliance programs.
