Spirit of Blue Foundation Partnership Grant (NB)
This is a request for City Commission approval to accept the Spirit of Blue Foundation Partnership Grant.
Explanation
Through the Gainesville Police Department's collaboration with the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding (RPCP), the RPCP entered into a new partnership with the Spirit of Blue Foundation to forge new grounds in increasing the safety and positive perception of officers in communities everywhere. With this initiative the Spirit of Blue Foundation believes it can impact agencies effectiveness in community policing and save lives. By building capacity and skills, agencies can redefine their roles and relationships with those youth and adults they come in contact with and interrupt the cycle of violence.
The RPCP has officially been awarded a Safety Training Grant by the Spirit of Blue Foundation to fund the Police-Youth Dialogue program through the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding (RPCP) with collaboration by the GPD. The value of the grant is $6,375 which will be paid to the RPCP.
Fiscal Note
The Funds received by the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding are to be used to provide training, public relations and community outreach materials with the collaboration and assistance of the GPD. The GPD will not receive any funds from the grant.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with the RPCP to collaborate and assist in developing training, public relations and community outreach materials, subject to review by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
