At the City Commission Meeting on March 19, 2015, the Commission chose the topic of GRU Governance for the Telephone Town Hall Meeting to be held on Monday, June 8, 2015. City Staff met last week to discuss the necessary preparations for the Telephone Town Hall Meeting. At this point, Staff is uncertain about the Commission's objective for a telephone discussion of GRU Governance, given that the Commission has held numerous meetings on the topic over the past two years, received extensive information and input from citizens and community groups, took action on April 2, 2015 directing the City Attorney to prepare a draft ordinance creating a single, Lakeland-type "strong" utility advisory board and there is no upcoming voter action on this topic, such as a referendum question.
Staff requests further direction from the Commission as to its objectives and how to approach framing or structuring a telephone discussion of GRU Governance. Alternatively, the Commission may wish to consider a different topic.
Fiscal Note
The cost of a Telephone Town Hall meeting is approximately $4,500 for a one-hour call and is included in the FY 15 budget.
