Explanation
Regional Transit System (RTS) makes transit service changes three (3) times a year. These changes coincide with the semester schedules for the University of Florida (UF) and Santa Fe College (SF). The proposed service changes reflect the routine decrease in service levels that accompany the summer period and have been approved by both UF and SF respective to the routes they fund. A number of the changes are also an attempt to fulfill the intent of the 2015 - 2024 RTS Transit Development Plan (TDP), which the City Commission approved on August 21, 2014; this includes changes recommended in the Comprehensive Operational Analysis
(COA) report that were incorporated into the TDP. RTS presented these service changes at an advertised public meeting on March 25, 2015, that was jointly held at the same time as the RTS Advisory Board meeting to receive citizen input on the proposed changes.
Fiscal Note
In FY 2015-16, the City of Gainesville will receive approximately $13,800,000 from the University of Florida (UF) for service enhancements and $1,000,000 from Santa Fe College (SF) for service enhancements.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the Regional Transit System (RTS) proposed summer 2015 transit service changes effective May 4, 2015.
