GPD School Resource Officers Update (B)
This item is to update the City Commission on the status of reimbursement from the Alachua County School Board for school resource officers for the coming budget year.
Explanation
It is anticipated that the Alachua County School Board will reduce a portion of their funding for both the Gainesville Police School Resource Officers and the Alachua County Sheriff School Resource Deputies in the County.
Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell has made a proposal to the municaplities within the County to take over staffing of the middle schools with their own officers.
Fiscal Note
The fiscal costs will be contingent on the options agreed upon by the City Commission.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) hear a presentation from GPD; and 2) discuss options to continue to insure the safety of the children in the public schools within the Gainesville City limits.
