Explanation
At the December 8, 2016 regular General Policy Committee meeting, the Commission discussed short and long-range options to make changes to the Tree Ordinance. The Commission directed staff to form a diverse stakeholder committee to make recommendations for quick changes to incentives for tree preservation, equity of mitigation requirements, uses of mitigation funds, and the economic impact of mitigation.
Since that time, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and the Department of Doing teamed up to form a Tree Ordinance Stakeholder Committee, who has drafted recommendations for changes to the Tree Ordinance.
Fiscal Note
The Tree Mitigation Fund has a balance of $2,780,285. $720,563 of these funds have been committed to a variety of projects including NW 1st Avenue, NW/SW 6th Street, Rail Trail, Depot Avenue (segment 2),
Miscellaneous Projects through a contractor, etc.
Recommendation
The General Policy Committee hear a report from the Tree Ordinance Stakeholder Committee.
