This is a request for the City Commission and School Board of Alachua County to receive an implementation update on the “Great Eight Model” at the A. Quinn Jones Center.

Explanation
The Reichert House Youth Academy is a proactive program designed to give young men the opportunity to learn about themselves and their community via education. The cornerstone of the Reichert House program centers around three elements: respect, restraint and responsibility. The program helps youth develop, achieve and maintain a lifestyle from substance abuse and crime. The Reichert House provides youth with the opportunity and support to build positive lives so they can move into contributing roles in society. There are 171 students enrolled at the Reichert House Youth Academy, according to quarterly report ending June 30, 2015.

The City of Gainesville and the School Board of Alachua recently entered into a Memorandum of Support and Understanding for the Implementation of the “Great Eight Model” (GEM) at the A. Quinn Jones Center. The School Board and Gainesville Police Department will assist with behavior support for students in grades 6 - 12 attending the school. The School Board has agreed to employ eight Paraprofessional Behavior Intervention Specialists who will assist with implementation of the Reichert House model at the school. The School Board has also agreed to fund one Reichert House Youth Program Assistant Director who will oversee and coordinate the implementation of the Reichert House “Great Eight” program at the school.

Fiscal Note
The School Board has agreed to reimburse the City for the salary and all benefits of the Reichert House Youth Program Assistant Director, including FICA expense for one year (12 month position) with the maximum cost for this position not to exceed $76,347.
