This is an update on Discussions with the Gainesville Housing Authority regarding the Redevelopment of Woodland Park Housing Complex

Explanation
On September 3, 2015 the City Commission heard a presentation from Pamela Davis, Executive Director of the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA). She presented the future plans for the redevelopment of Woodland Park Housing Complex. During the presentation the need to coordinate the City's neighboring Woodlawn Park renovation and the Boys and Girls Club was discussed and later referred to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.

On October 8th, Michelle Park, Assistant Director, met with Ms. Davis to discuss coordinating the renovation of the City-owned Woodlawn Park, located adjacent to the Housing Authority, and the Boys and Girls Club located on the park land as well. The PRCA Vision 2020 Master Plan identifies the need to upgrade 50 parks at approximately $70,000 each.

Ms. Davis asked if City funding could be used to upgrade the Boys and Girls Club. Staff explained that the City staff could support funding exterior upgrades as part of the park renovations, but that since it is a private entity, the interior renovations would need to be achieved by the Boys and Girls Club. City staff would work in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club and GHA to coordinate timing and whatever other assistance possible.

The end result would be that when the new Woodland Park residential development is under construction and nearing completion, the adjacent Woodlawn Park and the Boys and Girls Club renovations and upgrades will also occur so when the new complex opens, the entire community will have a new look consistent with the new residential development.

Staff can prepare a CIP increment for City Manager and City Commission consideration for FY 2017 to address the park renovations and exterior renovations to the Boys and Girls Club. If funding beco...
