This item is a request to execute an easement with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the Rail/Trail on State-owned lands inside the city limits for the City of Gainesville Public Works Department to make infrastructure improvements on SE 4^th Street and SW 6^th Street.

Explanation

The State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands, owns Rail/Trail land within the City Limits of Gainesville and sublets said property to the City of Gainesville for the maintenance of infrastructure.  The City of Gainesville now desires to make infrastructure improvements to the property to include bike lanes, sidewalk and other amenities.  The upgrades would include an area on SE 4^th Street and SW 6^th Street where the rail trail crosses these corridors.  

Fiscal Note

Funding in the amount of $100 for administrative costs is available in the Public Works FY2016 operating budget.

Recommendation

The City Commission: 1) adopt the Resolution approving the Easement, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality; 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the easement application; and; 3) authorize the Mayor to execute and the Clerk to attest the Easement subject to approval by the City Attorney as form and legality.
