Payment to the Community Foundation of North Central Florida related to IDEO Professional Services (B)
This item requests the City Commission to approve a payment to the Community Foundation of North Central Florida in the amount of $70,000 for the professional services rendered by IDEO.
Explanation
As part of the scope of work of the Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee on Economic Competitiveness, professional services with design firm IDEO were received in 2015 in order to assess and make recommendations related to the delivery of business, planning and development services in the city of Gainesville.
On April 16, 2015, the City Commission authorized the City Manager to use general fund balance for professional services necessary to support the Development Services Center concept in an amount not to exceed $100,000. In order to contract with the firm IDEO to explore this concept, a collaborative fundraising effort ensued with community partners. The following community partners contributed between $10,000 and $25,000 each towards the effort: the Builder’s Association of North Central Florida, Cox Communications, the Community Redevelopment Agency, the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Gainesville/Alachua County Realtors Association, UF Health Shands, and the University of Florida.
The contract with IDEO was subsequently executed with the Community Foundation of North Central Florida as the fiscal agent. After the community fundraising efforts were complete it was suggested that the city would contribute the remaining funds necessary to contract with IDEO. The Community Foundation recently completed its fundraising efforts and provided a $70,000 invoice, which is the city of Gainesville's contribution to the initiative.
