Title

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grant (NB)

This item requests that the Commission authorize the City Manager to execute a grant, if awarded, from the 2016 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for the purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators.

Explanation

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation provides local public safety agencies and their communities with grant funding dedicated to improving life-saving capabilities. The grants are awarded in 5 distinct areas:  Life-saving Equipment; Prevention Education; Scholarships and Continued Education; Support for Members of the Military; and Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Relief.

The Gainesville Fire Rescue Department has established the goal to equip all staff vehicles with Basic Life Support Equipment including Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs). The Firehouse Subs Grant request seeks the funds necessary to add the AED component of this project. If awarded, the placement of the AEDs along with other BLS equipment will enhance the capabilities of all day staff while conducting their daily activities throughout the City of Gainesville.

Fiscal Note

The total benefit is approximately $22,000.  There is no match required.

Recommendation

The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the grant award contract and other necessary documents, pending approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
