This item recommends that the City Commission attend a workshop on Active Shooter incidents and preparedness.
Explanation
A number of events have occurred across the United States, and the world at-large with regards to active shooter situations. In an effort to proactively address the problem and to prepare for circumstances similar in nature in or among City facilities and the various places our employees work, the City will hold a mandatory training for all city employees. These training efforts are designed to better prepare and equip employees with information on how to respond in the event of an active shooter. This goal for this mandatory is for every city employee to complete the training within 12 months.
Staff requests Commission participation in the Active Shooter training workshop scheduled September 19, 2018, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at GPD Hall of Heroes. The workshop will be conducted by the Gainesville Police Department.
