In July 2018, the City Commission directed Staff to engage the community regarding the future redevelopment of the Cabot Koppers Site. A community meeting is scheduled for April 10, 2019 to discuss existing conditions and future opportunities for the site.
Explanation
In July 2018, the City Commission directed Staff to engage the community in the future redevelopment of the Cabot Koppers Site. In the past months Staff met with property owners, partner agencies’ staff and key stakeholders to discuss the existing conditions on site, implications of remediation to future development, and potential future redevelopment scenarios on site.
A community meeting is scheduled for April 10, 5 - 7 PM, at the Star Theater, 11 NE 23rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32609. At the meeting, City, County, and EPA staff, and property owners’ representatives will discuss the history and present conditions of the site, including remediation timeline and implications. Then, realistic redevelopment scenarios will be discussed in an interactive way. The public is invited to participate and provide input.
Fiscal Note
Funding for outreach and planning is currently being provided via the Department of Doing professional services. No funding source has been confirmed yet for the project itself.
Recommendation
The Joint City and County Commission hear an update from staff and provide direction.
