Adoption of Gainesville Police Strategic Plan and Goals (B)
This item request is for the City Commission to recognize GPD’s attempt to become accredited with the Commission of Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies and adopt the department’s Strategic Plan and Goals.

Explanation
The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is in the process of obtaining accredited status with the Commission of Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and one of the standards requires the department to do a Strategic Plan. GPD’s Senior Planner was given the task of completing a Strategic Plan for the department to cover a three year timeframe, 2019 to 2022. This plan consisted of internal and external surveys, a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis, re-defining the department’s Vision and Mission Statement, an analysis of workload data, and development of measurable goals for the department that are in alignment with the cities four guiding questions, Support a Stronger Economy, Foster Greater Equity, Plan for Better Future, and Be a Community Model. The newly developed Strategic Plan and goals are both dynamic based on ever-changing data and will be reviewed annually for modification.
GPD is on schedule for their final assessment in August of 2019.
