Title
Affordable Housing Engagement Update (B)
Explanation
On February 20, 2019, the City Commission held a workshop to invite feedback and input on the city’s engagement strategy for issues of housing affordability. During that workshop, citizens, Commissioners and staff worked together to articulate priorities for addressing local housing needs and to make suggestions for how best to engage the broader community around these issues. Additionally, staff created a housing needs and interests survey to increase opportunities for participation. Staff worked with community partners, faith-leaders, and community leaders to conduct a series of small group discussions with community members across the city in order to get more comprehensive input on local housing needs and create a housing engagement framework.
Staff will present an overview of community input on community housing priorities as well as a housing engagement framework.

Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission 1) Hear a presentation from staff, 2) Discuss Commission participation in a workshop to address questions to answer before we engage and to develop strategies for equitable and inclusive engagement, and 3) Discuss devoting the work of a full time employee in Housing and Community Development to housing strategy working between the Department of Doing and Housing and Community Development.
