Cannabis Arrests Update (B)

Explanation

With the passing of the Senate Bill 1020 (Ch. 2019-132) on July 1, 2019, Hemp with a Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) 0.3% became legal.  This has affected the enforcement of cannabis laws and the legality of prosecution.  In coordination with the 8th Judicial State Attorney's Office, the Gainesville Police Department has issued a legal bulletin in reference to these guidelines.  Staff will provide an update to the City Commission to include statistics involving cannabis arrests, notice to appears, and sworn complaints made prior to and after the change in the law.

Recommendation

The City Commission hear a presentation by staff.
